The Leadership Lesson of Releasing Control

Scripture: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.” —
Proverbs 3:5

Leadership often makes us feel responsible for everything.

We carry the mission, the people, the deadlines, the finances, the next event, the next message, and
the needs that keep surfacing in our inboxes and conversations. We may feel pressure to have the
right answer, make the best decision, resolve conflict quickly, or ensure that every person connected
to our ministry is okay.

But leadership was never meant to be an attempt to control every outcome.

The truth is, God may be doing a deeper work in us than the one we are asking Him to do around us.
Sometimes we pray for God to change a situation, resolve a conflict, open a door, or change another
person’s heart. Yet God may also be inviting us to release the belief that our peace depends on a
particular outcome.

That is especially important for ministry leaders. We can communicate clearly, lead with integrity,
create healthy systems, set boundaries, pray faithfully, and serve with compassion. But we cannot
control how people receive correction, respond to kindness, honor commitments, or steward the
opportunities God gives them.

Releasing control is not passivity. It is faithful stewardship without carrying what belongs to God.
Ask yourself:
What issue have I been trying to manage in my own strength?
Where has my peace become dependent on someone else changing?
What faithful action can I take today, and what do I need to place back into God’s hands?

At Virtual Ministry Assistants, we understand that strong leadership requires both strategy and
surrender. Systems, planning, delegation, and communication are valuable tools. But even the best
systems cannot replace trust in the One who sees the full picture.

Lead diligently. Pray honestly. Take the next faithful step. Then release the outcome to God.
Blessings,
